I worked in Zimbabwe for 18 months after university. Every white expat wife was black owned. It was a really normal part of life. The wives loved it, the husbands not so much. When I arrived a lot of the older guys said things like “it’s a good thing you don’t have a wife with you”…..I thought they were jealous of me being young and single, I soon found out it was because their black bosses, government officials and other powerful black men were claiming their wives within a few weeks of arriving.
